You’d have to eat a lot of pure cap to kill you. Oral LD50 in mice is 47.2 mg/kg (source). For an 80 kg person, that’s 3780 mg of pure cap. 1000mg of pure cap dropped into a pot of chili would be inedibly hot even to the most hardcore spicy food fan.

Authoritarian systems tend to create conditions for pedophiles and other sexual predators to thrive. They have a group on the heirarchy who are above reproach in the eyes of everyone around them. That doesn’t mean everyone on that level will be sexual predators, but sexual predators who get in there will be protected.

Having seen such a system from the inside (Jehovah’s Witness), I’ve even seen that members will genuinely be disgusted at sexual predators. In their mind, that’s all the more reason to believe there are no sexual predators around their group. Their group is good, and therefore, bad people aren’t in their group.

Prices tend to come down on these things simply because the car industry widely adopts them. For example, accelerometers became cheap because they were needed for air bags. LIDAR might not come down as much as those have, but it won’t be tens of thousands of dollars.

LIDAR generally works better at relatively short distances (like less than a km). Several other car companies are going with LIDAR and do alright. Musk thinks cameras with image recognition would be sufficient without anything else. It goes without saying that Musk is very wrong.

Worse than that; if you have flexible ethics, there are some easy ways to make money while being an idiot.

My wife and I wondered if there was a way to fixup houses and sell them in a way that actually did quality work while netting a decent profit to be worth the time and effort. Our conclusion was that while you might be able to find an opportunity here or there, it would only be enough for occasional side income. If you wanted to make it a job and have piles of money, you almost have to cut all the corners to make it profitable at all. Shitty house flippers have flooded the supply, and it’s created a Market for Lemons situation where buyers have to assume it’s done badly and price it accordingly.

As a radical centrist, I must find any possible reason that someone would stick an obvious dogwhistle in their name besides being a Nazi. We can’t just go assuming the blatantly obvious.

It’s also quality of the tape and how we used it. You could buy a tape and use it for 2, 4, or 6 hours with a tradeoff in quality. Blank tapes were rather expensive, so we all used 6 hours and then copied from there.

Commercially produced VHS tapes also tended to be higher quality than blank tapes, unless you went out of your way to buy the quality ones.

Somewhat different issue there. JPEG compression is lossy. It doesn’t happen on a BMP. Though you can probably link the two up with underlying information theory.
